Turf time over for Bog Hotel couple
Top solicitor Paudge Dorrian, who is to be the best man at the infamous 'Bog Hotel' wedding, thinks that the Tánaiste Mary Coughlan should award the romancing couple with an enterprise award.
Last week, Paudge Dorrian won the case for media savvy Patsy Brogan in a courtroom showdown. Mr Dorrian proved that there was nothing illegal about the 72-year-old garden shed in a bog in the Bluestack Mountains.
Immediately, Mr Brogan and Daria Weiske, who is 43 years his junior, said they planned to celebrate by getting married. She said she was considering an Easter Monday wedding in her native Poland. Mr Brogan added they also had an offer from a Donegal hotel for a free wedding.
Mr Dorrian who did not rule out travelling to Daria's native Poland for the wedding said that Patsy Brogan asked him to be his best man just after his next case had began.
He said: "I will travel to Poland if I have to. I have no hand in the decision making of where the occasion will be. I was in the middle of my next case and Patsy came over to me and asked me to be best man at his wedding. I didn't answer him just then because I couldn't. It's a bit of excitement. I think that the Taniste Mary Coughlan should give them an award for local enterprise. Patsy is from the same parish as herself."
Ms Weiske has repeatedly denied she intended marrying Mr Brogan.
Speaking to the Democrat she said: "I believe that we will be getting married in Poland. I want a normal and small wedding. I hope that I can just celebrate and be happy the case is over now and Patsy won. It is a good time for us. We are very very happy."
She added that there might not be that many people at it if it were to be in Poland but did not rule out holding the event in Donegal. Her final decision to marry the qualified pilot came when Patsy won his case last week. "I was thinking of it up to then but I made my final decision when he won the case."
Daria said that she now plans to lead the carefree life of being a farmer's wife to keep sheep on the bluestack farm, continue horse-riding and buy a horse.
Mr Brogan said they might marry in Donegal, instead of Poland, because a hotelier told him: "You can have it for free. You are the best thing to happen to Donegal publicity-wise for a long time."
Mr Brogan was due to appear RT's Podge and Rodge show last year but his solicitor said he advised against it because the case was still sub judice.
It is now understood that Mr Brogan could expand his bar.
