Trainer fined after dogs attacked teenager
A Falcarragh dog trainer has been convicted of failing to control two sheep dogs which attacked a teenage girl.
Eugene McGee, Ballintemple, Falacarragh pleaded guilty at Falcarragh District Court sitting in Letterkenny, of failing to control the two sheep dogs which attacked a woman walking past his home.
The victim, who was 17 at the time, received a puncture wound and bruising to her right leg in the attack on April 4th last. She also had to receive a tetanus injection. The two dogs were destroyed following the attack.
The court heard that McGee (61) had been training the two dogs which were sitting outside the house and were unrestrained at the time of the attack.
Solicitor Patsy Gallagher said the victim was walking past the house when the dogs attacked her. He said it was not known why the dogs attacked but added it was unusual for collies to attack for no reason. The case has had an impact on the defendant, he said.
Judge Hughes agreed that such dogs are very protective but added “they are likely to pinch you”.
McGee was fined e150 on a count of failing to control an animal while another charge was taken into consideration.
