Tragic Erin to be laid to rest today

The twin towns will come to a standstill this morning as 13-year-old Erin Gallagher is laid to rest.

The young student at Finn Valley College, who warned friends on a social networking site she was going to kill herself because she was being bullied, was found dead at her home in Ballybofey on Saturday.

Her funeral mass will take place at 11am in St Mary’s Church, Stranorlar, with interrment afterwards in Castlefin Cemetery.

Two teenagers are reported have presented themselves voluntarily to gardaí for questioning, according to a report on RTÉ.

Minister of State with responsibility for Mental Health Kathleen Lynch told RTÉ’s Morning Ireland that “robust models” are needed in schools to teach children about the consequences of cyberbullying.

She said cyberbullying is a new phenomenon, which will likely pass, only to be replaced by something else.

“Unfortunately, while it is at its peak, the tragic outcomes are being seen,” Minister Lynch added.
