A twister that ripped through the town of Hattiesburg in Mississippi on Sunday evening completely destroyed the home of a Letterkenny woman who was yesterday trying her best to salvage what she could from her residence as rain continued to drench the storm torn region.

Bronagh Gallagher from Sallaghrane was audibly in shock on Monday morning as she described the roof of her house being “snapped like a toothpick” by a pine tree that smashed on top of it during the Sunday storm.

The Mississippi University lecturer had not been in her home when the tornado struck on Sunday but received a call to tell her that her home had been destroyed in the tornado.
