“They have made an ass of it” - Cllr

Cllr Phonsie Travers.

Cllr Phonsie Travers.

At the monthly meeting of Ballyshannon Town Council councillors where told in response to a question tabled by Cllr. Pat O’Malley that there was no progress on the old Millstone Hotel as “there were no grants available”.

Cllr. O’Malley expressed his extreme disappointment saying that Ballyshannon would now be left with an eyesore in the middle of the town.

He said, “They have made an ass of it and it is down to their own bad management. They paid far too much for this site at the outset.

“This is an ongoing problem for the last five years and now they (Apex Housing) just turn around and tell us that there are no grants available to proceed with it. This is not acceptable.”

Cllr. Phonsie Travers said, “There is no point in apportioning blame - we should invite Apex along and see can we come up with a positive outcome.

“I am sure that their intentions were good at the start but as we all know, financial conditions have changed drastically.”
