For many months we have been witnessing many closures and cutbacks due to the decline in the economy. There are good news stories in the midst of our community and over the next few months we will be highlighting some of the indigenous companies that are thriving in spite of the times.

Tonight a company which started off in Mountcharles 38 years ago and carved out its own niche in the market will be featured on RTE’s “Nationwide” at 7.00 pm.

The programme interviews the McMonagle family of McMonagle Stone and tells their story of their natural stone business established in 1974 by Dan McMonagle in the South West of Donegal.

The episode shows the process of the highly skilled craftsmen creating the natural stone from beginning to the finished product.

“We were delighted to be on this popular programme and hope it will give us good exposure throughout Ireland in these difficult times” Director, Dan McMonagle said, “In the present time every day is a challenge but one we must rise to.

“There is work out there and we must chase it and match or even exceed the high standards on the market -place.

“At the end of the day its all about sustaining employment on the Western Seaboard - and it is small companies like ourselves that can help lay the foundation for the future of this country once again.

Dan added, “Operating five quarries in Donegal, ensures we provide superior pricing and unmatched attention to detail for our customers.”

McMonagle Stone is one of Ireland’s largest manufacturers and suppliers of natural stone, a product riven from the landscape adjacent to Ireland’s Atlantic coastline.
