It’s an event worth ‘weighting’ for!

The first European Strongman Finals will be held in Letterkenny Town Park on the weekend of September 14th-15th. Up to 14 national winners from across Europe will descend on Letterkenny in a bid to lift the coveted title.

The event is being jointly organised by former UK and World Strongman Dave Warner of Renegade Strongman in association with local fitness instructor, Nigel Drein of Motiv8 Fitness.

Hailed as yet another ‘significant international event’ for the Cathedral Town by Mayor Dessie Larkin, the Under 90kg finals, are set to attract up to 5,000 people over the weekend.

Nigel Drein says Letterkenny is an ideal location for the event. “Our facilities are perfect for an event of this kind, coupled with a public appetite for a showcase event like this. It will be a great spectator and family event.

“Anyone who remembers the great BBC broadcasts of the UK Strongman finals will get a sense of nostalgia attending the European Strongman Finals. We are delighted to be able to bring the event to Letterkenny and have just announced a range of sponsorship opportunities for local businesses. So we look forward to making it a success for everyone involved.”

Mayor Dessie Larkin congratulated Dave and Nigel on bringing the European Strongman finals to Letterkenny. “The profile and business opportunities from this event cannot be under-estimated at a time when we need to capitialise on every opportunity that comes our way,” he said.

“Letterkenny Town Council is supporting the event and combining it with a family fun day in the Town Park on Saturday, September 15th.”

Dave Warner who has been involved in Strongman events for 20 years outlines what people can expect from the European Finals. “We have eight competitor events with up to 14 finalists coming from across Europe. The heat finals will see competitors lift beer barrels, pull a 4x4 trailer and lift two huge axle wheels on a bar. These will be high-octane events with lots of pressure on competitors to deliver.”
