The first ever Chinese social evening will take place tonight in Letterkenny, bringing together the many local people with an interest in China and its culture and some of the local Chinese community.

Organised by local Chinese teacher Jill Murphy, in conjunction with LYIT, the evening hopes to be a fun event for the many people who have been learning the language over the past year at LYIT and those who are interested in taking it up in the future.

Jill explained: “We would love anyone who has an interest in learning more about China to come along. It will be a unique event taking place on Friday, October 12, from 6pm to 7pm in Hees Chinese Restaurant on the High Road (underneath the Donegal News offices).

“The event is open to anyone who wants to come along and is entirely free of charge. As well as a chance to taste some authentic Chinese snacks and drinks, there will be a number of activities including a chance to get a Chinese name, and learn how to use chopsticks. There will be two Chinese conversation tables where you can practice your Chinese with Chinese friends, or just learn how to say ‘Hello’ and ‘thank you’ if you don’t know any Chinese. This is a great chance to meet other people in Letterkenny studying or interested in Chinese.”

Jill concluded: “I have set up a facebook page for Chinese called Letterkenny Chinese, join it if you wish to hear about our Chinese classes and other Chinese related social events. The web address is www.facebook.com/letterkenny.chinese

Anyone interested in attending can e-mail letterkennychinese@gmail.com or just turn up at Hees restaurant between 6-7pm on Friday October 12.
