Shortall resignation ‘a blow to the Labour party’ - Harte

Senator Jimmy Harte has said that the resignation of Junior Minister for Health Roisin Shortall yesterday is ‘a blow to the Labour party’.

Senator Harte told media this morning: “I was very disappointed at the news of Roisin’s resignation from Government and of the party whip.

“If I were involved in the party leadership, I would have tried to persuade her to stay on. She has great ability and a great commitment to the job.

“Her resignation is a blow to the party but she chose, as a matter of principal, to stand down.

“I hope though that Roisin, whose mother is from Lifford, will continue to be able to make a contribution.”
