Santa sprung a huge surprise at the annual Santa Party held in Ballyshannon on Sunday last.

Local children Zoe (3) and Cora Gillen (5) from the Knather in Ballyshannon went to the party with their mum Rosina and were surprised when Santa read out their letters to him.

Both girls had asked Santa for the normal Christmas presents but both ended their letters with a very special request, asking Santa to bring their Dad, Declan, home from Uganda where he is serving with the Irish Defence Forces.

Santa told the two girls to close their eyes and count to ten and when they opened their eyes, there was their Dad, Declan, standing in front of them.

It was a truly magical moment on what was a magical day with children gathering for a day of music, face painting and dancing as the great man arrived among them.

Santa arrived earlier at Dorrian’s Imperial Hotel thanks to the members of the local fire service who gave him a blue light spin around the town before dropping him off for the party.

Mary Daly, who has organised the Santa Party for the last three years, said she was very grateful too all those who had helped her - a more detailed thank you will appear in a later issue.

All of the monies raised from the party go to the local branch of St. Vincent de Paul. Well done all - a lovely day.
