Sam pays visit to Letterkenny General Hospital

Waiting for Video...

There were plenty of smiles all round at Letterkenny General Hospital recently when the famous Sam Maguire cup paid a visit.

Stars of the All-Ireland winning team proudly displayed the cup among the many hospital patients, their families and the hospital staff as they made time in their busy schedules to celebrate the famous victory.

Led by manager, Jim McGuinness, players who accompanied Sam included ‘All Star’ nominees Colm McFadden and Karl Lacey and their team colleagues Martin McElhinney, Peter Witherow as well as Maxi Curran from the coaching staff.

It was a case of busman’s holiday for Donegal GAA goalkeeping coach, Pat Shovlin, who played an important role in the famous victory over May..

Pat is also a staff member of the hospital where he works as a clerical officer but joined with his Donegal teammates as they visited several sections of the hospital.

They met with hundreds of people who were delighted to get the opportunity to see the stars and get a picture taken with Sam.

A number parents took the chance to have their new family additions pictured in the cup.

A steady cue of youngsters made the most of the visit when they called into the children’s ward.

There were plenty of pictures taken as souvenirs of the historic visit.

Many day patients visiting the hospital for appointments also availed of the chance to meet the lads and congratulated them on their success.
