‘Relay for Life’ fundraiser still signing up teams for event
Organisers for this year’s Irish Cancer Society fundraiser, Relay for Life, in Letterkenny, say they are on course for a full complement of teams for the 24-hour relay.
A Donegal Relay for Life spokesperson said a recent television advertisement said that in the 1950s, eight out of ten children with leukaemia died; today, nine out of ten survive, thanks to cancer research.
The proceeds from this year’s relay, to be held May 25th - 26th at the Letterkenny Institute of Technology, will benefit cancer research.
“That’s what we want to fund,” the spokesperson said. “We want more people celebrating birthdays and their loved ones celebrating with them.”
During the 24-hour fund fundraiser, survivors and carers will be honoured, and relay team members will take turns walking around the track throughout the day and night.
To enter a team, volunteer, register as a survivor, purchase a Candle of Hope, provide entertainment or find out more, contact relayforlifedonegal@gmail.com.
