Record attendance at Enterprise Week

By Declan Magee

This year’s Enterprising Donegal Business Week has been hailed as the best attended in its six years.

Organised by the Donegal County Enterprise Board, the week of events drew excellent attendance by business people from around the county.

Highlights of the week included a talk by Shane Long of Facebook, an appearance by entrepreneur Doug Richard from BBC’s Dragon Den and a talk and cookery demonstration by celebrity chef Richard Corrigan.

The theme for the week is ‘New ideas, new opportunities’ and Ursula Donnelly of the Enterprise Board said feedback from business has been really positive. “People are releasing that there are new opportunities to develop businsess. The message has been brought home that it is all about engaging with the customer whether that customer is local or further afield.”

Ms Donnelly said the event held by Richard Corrigan showed Donegal food producers what is required to put Donegal on the map for food and the food experience. “It was a great opportunity to show the audience the wealth of local produce that there is.”

Innovation and technology has been at the centre of the week, she said. “The challenge for people is to look at what other ways are there for small businesses to contact and engage with their customers cost effectively. We certainly got that message through. The level of people we have had and the questions that business people have been asking have been great.”

The attendance has been phenomenal, she said, at a time when some businesses are facing great challenges. “It is the highest numbers we have had for enterprise week and we are delighted because this week has been about has been challenging people to look to the future and engage with the technologies out there to enhance our businesses. This is definitely the best attendance and the feedback is that businesses are positive about the future in Donegal.”
