The Donegal town branch is one of sixteen to be closed down by Permanent TSB before the end of the year

The bank announced “a major restructuring” this week, which will affect eighteen of the bank’s 92 branches. A total of sixteen branches - including four in Dublin, four in Cork, three in Tipperary, and branches Donegal Town, Ennniscorthy, Westport and Waterford will be closed. Two branches in Dublin - Tyrrelstown and Coolock, will convert to self-service while the St Stephen’s Green branch is expected to close sometime next year.

A spokesperson for the bank said the changes will be implemented “as a matter of urgency”.

“All staff will be given the option of accepting a voluntary severance package or transferring to another branch. We have begun a 30 day consultation period will all our staff in this regard,” the spokesperson added.

The restructuring follows on negotiations with the Troika and the submission of a detailed viability plan by the bank to the European Commission.
