No shortage of songs for Donegal’s All Ireland day
A new song to commemorate Donegal’s success on the football pitch has been composed by Fr. Seán Ó Gallchóir, P.P., Gortahork. Fr. Seán penned the song “An Sam”, after the defeat by Donegal over Cork in Croke Park recently.
The well known local traditional group “An Crann Óg are singing the new song which was recorded at the RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta studio in Derrybeg last week. Caitlín Uí Dhuibhir and her brother, P.J. Ó Cuireáin oversaw the arrangement of the new song. An Crann Óg are tutored by Caitlín and P.J.
“An Sam” is getting very good air play on Raidió na Gaeltachta. The group members are: Conor Mac Íomhair, Simon Mac Giolla Easpaig, Cathal Ó Cuireáin, Majella Nic Pháidín, Lisa Nic Pháidín, Síle Ní Ghallchóir, Eva Ní Dhoibhlinn, Joanne Ní Cheallaigh, Caitríona Ní Ghribín, Máire Ionnidis, Emma Ní Fhíoruisce and Sharon Nic Pháidín.
In 1992 Fr. Seán also penned a song to celebrate the county’s All Ireland win. The song, “Tír Chonaill Abú” was recorded by the well-known group, Na Casaidigh who have a strong tie with Gaoth Dobhair.
