‘No offers’ from Liverpool or Celtic - McGuinness

Donegal manager Jim McGuinness insists there has been no approach for his services from Liverpool or Celtic but admits he would always consider offers.
McGuinness quickly distanced himself with the Anfield link but did admit he spent a couple of days in Glasgow in August to visit the club’s Lennoxtown training facility and attend a Champions’ League qualifier against Helsingborg IF.
“Nobody has approached me,” McGuinness told Highland Radio’s Shaun Doherty Show yesterday. “I was invited over to Celtic a number of weeks ago for a Champions League match. It was a great experience to go over and see it.
“The day before the game, I was invited over to the training ground for a look. I met everyone over there and they have some set-up with fantastic people, from recruitment, talent identification, strength and conditioning and just the coaches themselves and the faculties.
“It was a great experience to go and see that. It was something I took with open arms when I was asked if I wanted to go over. It was something that I enjoyed. From my own point of view, I come from sports science background so it was great to see.”
McGuinness has just recently moved back to his hometown of Glenties with his wife Yvonne and three young children. However, last month’s All-Ireland win has catapulted him onto a broader scale and he remains an appealing option to potential suitors with a background in sports science and psychology.
McGuinness has previously worked with soccer clubs like Derry City, Finn Harps and Limavady United, as well as golfers, athletes and GAA clubs.
“It wouldn’t scare me,” he continued. “If something came up, I would have to discuss it with my wife. The main aim is being the best you can be as a person and the players achieving as much as they can within the timeframe.
“The timeframe, even if you’re an extremely talented inter-county footballer is about 10 to 12 years, maximum. It’s a short timeframe, but my goal for the boys is for them to achieve as much as possible when they’re playing.
“Donegal is where I’m from and Donegal is my love and passion. It would have to be something that I would have to look at very seriously if there was going to be anything. “That isn’t the case at the moment and hasn’t been the case. Who knows what the future holds?”
