New principal at Royal and Prior

A new principal has been appointed at one of the Donegal's best known secondary schools.

Dr. Howard Welch has taken over the following the retirement of Mr. Des West at the Royal and Prior Comprehensive School, Raphoe.

Dr Welch is a Belfast native and has been a teacher at Gonzaga College in Dublin since 2001 where he taught History and was very active in sports activities having coached rugby and cricket teams there for a number of years.

The Royal and Prior Comprehensive School, Raphoe has more than 480 pupils on its books and carries on a strong Christian ethos under the patronage of the Donegal Protestant Board of Education. The school was established in 1971 as the result of the amalgamation of The Royal School, Raphoe -founded in 1608 - and the Prior School Lifford - founded in 1880.
