New school for Gortahork

Pat the Cope Gallagher MEP has confirmed that the Department of Education has approved the signing of a contract for the purchase of a site for a new school at Gortahork.

The contract will be subject to planning permission which is normal practice, however, Pat the Cope is quite confident that there should be no insurmountable difficulties, in view of the fact that he arranged meetings in the past with planning, roads, OPW and representatives of the Board of Management.

The Department will now proceed to the next stage - preparation of plans and submission of a planning application.

Mr Gallagher thanked Minister O Keeffe for this approval and he is confident that the project will now progress quickly through the various stages.

The local MEP paid tribute to the teachers, pupils, parents and the Board of Management for their persistence and perseverance.
