A new centre for cancer sufferers and their families, which is to open at Letterkenny General Hospital later this year, is just one of the benefits that will come from the huge response to last year’s Relay for Life in Donegal.

Almost 350,000 euro was raised by the 24-hour event last May with all proceeds going to the Irish Cancer Society. The society has this week detailed how that money is being spent in the county.

Night care for cancer patients, a free transport service to hospital, grants for cancer patients experiencing hardship, and counselling for cancer patients are just some of the ways the money raised by the Relay For Life was spent in Donegal.

The fundraiser for the Irish Cancer Society (ICS) raised the money with 71 teams from around the county taking part in the marathon relay that saw huge numbers of people walking and running around a track at the Letterkenny Institute of Technology. The event will be held again on May 25th in Letterkenny.
