New Bundoran Church window blessed by Bishop

The recently refurbished Church of Our Lady, Star of the Sea in Bundoran was further enhanced with the addition of a beautiful new stained glass window which was blessed on Saturday morning last by the most Reverent Liam MacDaid,
Present to enjoy the occasion after Bishop McDaid had said Mass were Parish Priest, the Very Rev. Canon Ramon Munster, Sean and Eilis McEniff and their family who very kindly sponsored the window, Jo Tinney the Enniskillen artist who designed the window, representatives of Alpha Glass, Derry who constructed the window and many local parishioners and visitors.
The new window is entitled “Star of the Sea” and portrays Our Lady standing on the local beach, with Roguey, Ben Bulben and Donegal Bay in the background. It is the second work designed by Jo Tinney who also designed the “St. Ninnidh” window.
When the Church was originally built, it was given the name “Star of the Sea” so this window commemorates that occasion and with the mural in the main hallway, reminds us that we ask Our Lady to guide us in life.
Many seaside towns have dedicated their Church to Our Lady, Star of the Sea, which is a ninth century title taken from the litany associated with the Rosary. It is translated from the Latin phrase “Stella Maris”. In some places the height of the Church spire was used to hold a light which served in areas where lighthouses did not exist. Tradition suggests that in Bundoran seafarers used the spires of both local Churches to guide them into the correct channel as they came close to land.
