Murder victim’s mother has faith in Gardaí
The mother of a man murdered in Donegal last February says she is confident his killers will be brought to justice.
24-year-old Andrew Allen, originally from Derry was living in Buncrana when he was gunned down at his house last February.
Vigilante group Republican Action Against Drugs (RAAD) say they carried out the murder alleging Mr Allen was a drug dealer in Derry.
Speaking this week the victim’s mother, Donna Allen, said while her son was “no angel” he was killed as part of a personal vendetta against him and was not a drug dealer.
She said she was “very angry” the Republican group claimed he was and that she was hopeful Gardaí would make a break through in the case to catch her sons killers and bring them to justice. “I’m very hopeful progress will be made,” she said.
“We know why he was killed. We know it was personal,” she told a national paper.
Mr Allen died at Links View Park in Lisfannon when masked men approached the house he shared with his partner and fired shots in the window. A car was found burned out nearby in Fahan and a major murder investigation got underway.
Following the killing the group RAAD issued a statement saying they targeted Mr Allen for being a drug dealer and had ordered him out of the city almost six before he was shot. They said they also had a second person targeted on the night but called it off due the increase in police activity when they carried out the Buncrana shooting.
It is understood RAAD, who previously planted a pipe bomb outside a so called “head shop” in Letterkenny in March 2010, have since disbanded and have joined forces with a new terror group know as the “New IRA.”
