Moville residents had a lucky escape on Friday morning when a bus broke loose and careered down its main street, smashing up to eight cars in its path.

Horrified locals who witnessed the mayhem as they took their children to school were fortunate to escape without injury, as the bus crashed through street bollards and vehicles. It is understood that many local businesses and residents flocked to the scene to help.

Labour Councillor Martin Farren lives in Moville and spoke of the incident.

“This was a very unfortunate accident in which a number of vehicles were badly damaged, but thankfully there were no fatalities.

“I would like to congratulate the Gardaí for responding as quickly as they did and taking control of the situation in a very professional manner.”
