More bad weather on the way

Hopefully nothing this bad on the way, but the forecast for the weekend isn't good!

Hopefully nothing this bad on the way, but the forecast for the weekend isn't good!

Donegal residents have been warned to brace themselves for more bad weather over the next couple of days.

While most of Donegal may have escaped the blizzard - like conditions experienced in Northern Ireland, conditions are expected to deteriorate over the weekend. Rain and sleet is forecast to move in from the south late on Friday afternoon turning increasingly to snow.

A weather warning has been issued by AA Roadwatch saying the county can expect some dangerous driving conditions in the next two days and they are advising extreme caution.

A number of road accidents were reported around the county as the cold snap took hold during the night. Strong winds also resulted in many areas across the country being left without electricity.

The AA report: “Snow and ice warning for Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal. Rain, sleet and snow mix will give some lying snow accumulations especially on hills but also at some lower levels. There will be blizzards and drifting in the strong winds. Rainfall warning for Munster, Connacht and Leinster. Widespread heavy rain or prolonged showers will give rise to some spot flooding. Especially at risk are Eastern coastal areas due to strong to gale force East to southeast winds.

Met Eireann states the bad weather is likely to continue tomorrow.

“Further outbreaks of rain and sleet over the north and east tomorrow. Mainly dry in Munster and south Connacht. High of 2 or 3 degrees in Ulster to 10 degrees in the far southwest. Strong east winds,” their website states.
