Met Eireann is predicting a mixed weekend of weather, but a large part of that mix is expected to be rain, winds and unseasonably low temperatures.

People planning to head to Bundoran for this weekend’s big Sea Sessions Surf and Music Festival will probably want to dress accordingly, with rainy and cool weather predicted to dominate much of the weekend in Donegal and around the country.

“You’ll be lucky if you get a temperature of 14 degrees in Donegal this weekend,” Met Eireann meteorologist David Rogers said.

Showers are expected to move farther inland from the north and west tonight and tomorrow morning, to give a longer spell of rain for a time here early tomorrow. However, Met Eireann is predicting some respite through tomorrow afternoon and evening, when the weather is expected to improve somewhat. But it will still be much cooler through tomorrow and quite windy, David said.

Sunday morning may start with showers in coastal regions, but otherwise the early part of Sunday is expected to be dry with a fair amount of sunshine that will likely last until evening. But from the evening into the night, rain will develop and continue overnight and into Monday.

There’s a very strong line up for the event in Bundoran, and a very special guest! President Michael D Higgins keeps a promise he made on the presidential campaign trail last year when in Bundoran and returns on Saturday circa 5pm to offer his good wishes to the revellers.
