Two men aged in their 30s are due to appear at Letterkenny District Court this morning following an assault in the town that left a 41-year-old man in critical condition.

Gardaí have confirmed that up to six men were involved an attack at Glenard Park in the Long Lane area at around 11.30pm on Friday night.

The victim of the assault suffered serious head injuries, reported to have been caused by a slash hook, and was brought to Letterkenny General Hospital. Another man was also brought to hospital with less serious injuries, and has since been discharged.

Two men, aged 37 and 31, were arrested on Saturday and detained at Letterkenny Garda Station.

Gardaí recovered a number of weapons during follow-up searches at three houses in the Long Lane area yesterday.
