Men in court over Leitrim cannabis finds

Two Vietnamese men appeared in court in Donegal Town today charged in connection with the seizure of almost €500,000 worth of cannabis in Co. Leitrim on Monday last, February 4.
Gardaí from the Divisional Drugs Unit searched two premises in the Carrick-on-Shannon area on Monday and seized the plants with an estimated street value of €490,000.
Dang Hai Nguyen, of Lisconnor, Kilclare, Carrick on Shannon, was found with plants valued at €240,000 at this address. The 44-year-old was arrested at the scene and detained at Manorhamilton Garda Station.
Defence solicitor Conor Maguire said his client had only been in the country for two weeks and did not hold a passport.
Separately, 41-year-old Dinh Trung Trinh of no fixed abode, was found with €250,000 worth of cannabis at Corrick, Aughamore, Lisconnor and taken to Sligo Garda Station.
Both men were charged with possession of cannabis for the purpose of sale or supply.
No application for bail was made on behalf of either defendant at Donegal District Court this morning.
Judge Kevin Kilrane remanded both men to appear at Harristown District Court this Friday, February 8.
