Man dies following tragic accident

A service will be held on Saturday for the man who died in hospital this week after being found seriously injured at the bottom of a flight of stairs in Dungloe.

The man has been named locally as Frank Orrell.

There will be a viewing tonight, Thursday, from 6 to 8pm, at Shaun McGlynn Funeral Directors on Chapel Road in Dungloe. There will be a service at St. Crone’s Church of Ireland, at 1pm on Saturday, followed by burial in the adjoining graveyard.

Mr. Orrell was found after 1am on Monday morning at the bottom of a flight of stars in a Dungloe apartment block at the rear of a pub. He was described as having sustained serious injuries and was taken to Letterkenny General Hospital.

Gardaí conducted a full forensic examination at the site on Monday, and are considering the death a tragic accident.

Mr. Orrell, originally from England, had lived in Dungloe for a number of years. It is understood he was in his mid-60s.
