Man dies after single-car accident

A man died early yesterday when the car he was driving went off the road and into a field in Fintown, a Garda spokesperson said.

Gardaí in Donegal were investigating the circumstances of the single-vehicle fatal collision that took place just after midnight, in the early hours of Monday morning.

The man had been named locally yesterday as Edward McGuigan, known as Eddie, of Daraghan, Greenans, Glenties. He is survived by his wife, Kitty.

According to a Garda spokesperson, at about 12.15am on Monday, a man in his seventies died when the car he was driving veered off the road and into a field at Meenmore, Fintown.

His body was removed by ambulance to Letterkenny General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Forensic collision investigators were notified and traffic diversions were in place at the scene.
