Man dies after being swept off rocks at Mullaghmore
A man who was fishing at Mullaghmore has died after being swept out to sea yesterday.
The man is understood to be a married 55-year-old non-national who had been living in Kildare for a number of years.
Shane Smyth, PRO for Bundoran RNLI, said they were alerted to the emergency by Malin Head Coast Guard at 10.10am.
The crew arrived at the scene within fifteen minutes. Gardaí and the ambulance service were already assisting the man.
Mr Smyth told the Democrat: “The man was fishing with two friends off sloping rocks at Mullaghmore Head. They went around a corner to find a better spot and when they came back, they found him in the water.”
The man was taken by ambulance to Sligo General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A post mortem is due to be carried out today.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends,” Mr Smyth said.
