Four men from Ballyshannon were among six Donegal men honoured this week for heroic rescues from rivers and the sea.
Sadly, two of the Ballyshannon men, PJ Patton and Larry McGonigle, did not live long enough to receive their Irish Water Safety lifesaving awards, 57 years after the event.
Their brothers, John Patton and Hugh John McGonigle, who also took part in the rescue, were there, though, along with other family members.
Read their stories, as well as the stories of Patrick Moss from Glenties and Jason McClay from Buncrana, as told directly to the Donegal Democrat, in this Thursday’s paper.
