Letterkenny businesses launching tourism initiative

Businesses in Letterkenny are coming together in a fresh initiative to win more of the tourist market.

Local representatives are sounding out a strategy that will allow them to put the town on the map as a family holiday destination as opposed to simply a location for a day trip.

“We need to get people staying longer in Letterkenny and enjoying the wealth of things to see and do in the area,” a statement from the group pointed out.

The initial steps in the campaign were taken following talks with local tourism suppliers. “It was decided that Letterkenny needs to take the initiative to win more of the tourist market.”

The thinking behind the campaign is, they say, simple. “Collectively as a group they can put together a fund and strategy that will allow them to communicate with potential customers around Ireland both North and South and showcase all that the town has to offer.

“It is paramount in the current climate that we work together for the long-term success of our businesses and the town in general.”

Commented local spokesman, Darren McElwaine yesterday: “We have set up an executive committee to put a bit of direction on it. It’s completely open to anybody from the local business community to join up at any stage.”

Details of the next meeting can be obtained by contacting Darren at Arena 7 on 074-9128853 or at sales@arena7.ie
