Not even the small problem of being out of mobile phone credit could prevent Grace Kelly from enterting the Late Late Show’s viewers’ competition on Friday night.

And it was just as well that her mum Kitty’s mobile phone was close by because a short time after texting in the answer to Ryan Tubridy’s question, the phone promptly rang.

“I knew when I saw the Dublin phone number that it was the Late Late,” Grace from Braide in Lifford explained. “The problem was the coverage was terrible and I asked the lady if it would be okay for her to ring back on the landline. It seemed like ages, but she eventually phoned back.”

Seconds later Grace was through to Ryan who declared that he’d always wanted to welcome Grace Kelly onto his programme. “He asked me if I’d like a holiday and I said I would,” Grace explained. “And he asked me if I’d like 10,000 dollars spending money. It was just brilliant. After a while the phone in the house started to ring and to be honest, it’s just been crazy all weekend.”

Grace, a retired receptionist at Letterkenny General Hospital, says she’s thrilled with the win. Her prize includes a six night stay at Hollywood, California. She plans to take her daughter Rachael with her and says her mum has already turned down the offer to go. They don’t plan to take up the holiday for a few months yet and in the meantime, there are two big birthdays to celebrate with Rachael turning 21 this week and Grace’s 50th in April.
