Lack of lighting “a disgrace” - Cllr.

Street lighting installed months ago on a busy road near Lifford have still not been turned on.

Local Fianna Fáil Cllr. Gerry Crawford branded the situation a “disgrace”.

The Porthall-based councillor said local residents had been seeking street lighting along the N15 from Coneyburrow to the Beechwood housing estate, the main road to the estate, for a number of years.

“Lighting was very badly needed there,” Cllr. Crawford said.

“People were delighted to see the lights put in place, but very disappointed that they haven’t yet been powered on,” he said. “I would go as far as to say it was a disgrace they haven’t been powered on.”

A woman in her 40s was seriously injured in late November of 2012 after she was struck by a car while walking on the Coneyburrow road.

In a separate matter, Cllr. Crawford said residents of the Porthall-Coolatee area near Lifford experienced a power cut on Christmas Eve, but he said the fault was repaired promptly and power restored.

“It’s only proper to thank the ESB staff who came out on Christmas Eve night to repair it,” Cllr. Crawford said.
