Killybegs Scouts celebrate 30 years of tradition...
The 30-year-long tradition of Cubs, Beavers and Scouting in Killybegs was celebrated over the weekend with a host of special events.
Scouts past and present a special Mass in St Mary’s Church on Saturday night. This was followed by a parade through the town, featuring the assembled scouts and St Catherine’s Marching Band, to the Bayview Hotel, where a buffet and dance was enjoyed by all. A fascinating photographic exhibition of the scouts’ activities over the past three decades was also held in the Bayview Hotel, and this provoked many, many fond memories.
Founded in August 1980,since their first meeting in 'The Forester's Hall', for over these three decades, children of the area have received a grounding in life skills, such as camping and cooking, that they have now carried with them to adulthood.
There are currently 24 Cubs and 24 Beavers, with ten leaders, but more leaders are urgently needed, especially to assist in outdoor activities. Anyone interested in becoming a Leader is asked to contact Nuala Knox on 087 673 7645.
