Kilcar Tourism Committee elect new chairman

At a meeting of the Kilcar Tourism Committee held in the Parish Hall on Tuesday, 2nd March, Barry McShane was elected chairman on the proposal of Donal Sweeney, seconded by Maureen Carr.

The members of the tourism committee are Barry McShane (chair), Maureen Carr (secretary), Rachel Carr (assistant secretary), Shaun McCloskey and John Joe McBrearty (treasurers), David Byrne, Donal Sweeney, John Carr, Monica O’Donnell, Keith Sherry and Noel Kennedy.

Much work is already done on this year programme of festivals and events and it was reported to the meeting that considerable interest has already been expressed in the Fleadh and the Folk, Blues & Bluegrass Festival, with many of the overseas visitors returning for this year’s Fleadh.

The full programme of workshops, concerts, dances and other events will be maintained for this year’s Fleadh. An extra concert (on Saturday, 10th July) will be added to the published schedule of the ‘Ceol na gConallach’ series. The Ceol na gConallach concerts will be held in islann Chill Chartha and in the Parish Hall. The first festival due is the very popular File na bPist (Children’s Festival), which will take place this year on Easter Sunday and Monday. It was agreed to publish a full colour poster to advertise the event this year. The Kilcar Tourism website in currently under construction and will be live in the near future.
