Judge calls on All-Ireland ‘icons’ to help road safety
Calls that Donegal’s All-Ireland winning “icons” use their new high profile status to help promote safe driving among the county’s youth, were made by a Circuit Court Judge.
Speaking at Letterkenny Circuit Court court on Tuesday, Judge John O’Hagan gave his congratulations to the Donegal team on their success saying it was “tremendously uplifting for a county.”
He said as a Meath man living in Co. Louth he has experienced successes by both counties and now the “young heroes” of Donegal would find themselves as “icons within the county” and could use this to encourage young motorists to drive safely.
He said it could be used to ”impress upon the young people of Donegal that to drive on the road is a privilege,” and to ask them not to drive in a dangerous manger.
“It is a problem in Donegal and it is a message I have tried to send out many times. These young icons, I encourage them to encourage the youth to respect our roads,” he added.
