SDLP local representative for Belleek John Coyle has said the closure of the Hotel Carlton marks a dark day for the town.

Mr Coyle was speaking after the announcement yesterday that the landmark hotel is to shut with the loss of 25 jobs.

He said: “The Hotel Carlton has been a key part of our local tourist economy for many many years, as well as a key employer in the town.

“Its closure marks a very dark day for Belleek and my thoughts are with those who now find themselves out of work.

“It is essential that local traders and public representatives band together to find a sustainable and profitable way forward for our local economy.”
