Horslips guitar legend Johnny Fean honoured this weekend

Johnny Fean, Horslips seminal guitar player, will be honoured for his unique playing style and his influence on Irish rock music at the 3rd Inishowen International Guitar Festival which opens tomorrow.

The concert which takes places at McGrorys of Culdaff will see Johnny guest with Paddy Goodwin and the Holy Ghosts. He will also be joined by Horslips members Charles O’Connor, Jim Lockhart and Barry Devlin. This unique event will place Johnny Fean in the middle an amazing international line up at this world class festival.

The festival will also feature a strong international line up ranging from the Carl Verheyen Band, Frank Vignola and Vinny Raniola to Muriel Anderson all from USA.

These are all internationally respected musicians with Carl Verheyen being guitarist with legendary Supertramp and one of the top session players in LA. Frank and Vinny are two amazing players who have worked with Tommy Emmanuel, Ringo Starr and Madonna, among others. Muriel Anderson is a unique talent and is the first woman to have won the National Fingerstyle Guitar Champioship in the USA.

The Gadjo Combo, all the way from the south of France, will bring their special Gypsy Jazz to Inishowen for an afternoon event on Sunday and will also be hosting a workshop for those interested in developing their skills.

The festival links up this year with Da Capo Concert Series to present a unique classical guitar concert in St Buadan’s Church of Ireland in Culdaff on Sunday with Manus Noble (England) and Svanur Vilbergsson (Iceland).

The festival will also feature a vintage guitar show, trade exhibitions and much more.

While Culdaff acts as the centre for the festival, there are events at schools in Moville and Buncrana which bring an opportunity to students to experience world class musicians perform.

This year will also see the launch of the festival’s new digital TV Channel available via the website www.iguitar.ie where you’ll also find the full festival programme.
