The grief-stricken grandparents of the two boys who were swept away in ‘Superstorm Sandy’ in New York last week were being comforted by friends and relations at their Portnoo home yesterday. Many called to the family home to convey their deepest sympathies to the couple on the tragic loss of their beautiful grandchildren, two-year-old Brandon and four year-old Connor.

The boys’ father is Damian Moore, a native of Loughfad, Clooney and is understood to have been living in America for a number of years.

Details of the boys’ tragic deaths were detailed in the American media as the US begins to recover from the devastating storm. The mother of the children, Glenda Moore, fled their flooding home on Staten Island with her sons on Monday evening, when their SUV reportedly stalled and rushing water swept the two infants from her arms.

“As the water swelled she lost her grip of her children and they were swept away,” police confirmed.

The youngsters’ bodies were recovered from a marsh on Thursday. Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said: “It just compounds all the tragic aspects of this horrific event.”
