Mourners at yesterday’s funeral of murder victim Andrew Allen, who was shot dead in Buncrana were told the killing brought an “evil darkness” to the community.

Hundreds of mourners gathered to say their final farewell’s to the 24 year-old who was shot dead at his home on Thursday.

Fr Daniel McFaul told mourners at Requiem Mass in St Columba’s Church, Long Tower that the man originally from the ‘Top of the Hill’ area of Derry was “too young to die”.

He said: “This murder has brought an evil darkness to your community here in Derry City as well as in the Waterside, where he grew up, and the community in Buncrana.

“Murder, the taking of human life is always wrong and can never be justified. The events of Thursday evening bring home to all of us the reality that evil is lurking in our community.”

He said the actions of those engaging in such acts of vigilante violence “shows a willing disregard for the sacredness of human life”.

Fr McFaul said Andrew was described by his family as a “loveable rogue” who loved his two children Katie and Lochlann and his partner Arlene.
