20 years ago the phenomenon of painting cars in the Donegal colours took off in the week before the All Ireland final and we all thought it was great gas.

I recall cars were placed on the road near Termon, another near Dungloe and a Ford Fiesta got a make over and was placed on the side of the Laghey to Pettigo Road.

No doubt readers will recall cars painted in the green and gold on many other roads, but those few remain in my memory.

However, the paint jobs were, if memory serves me correctly, a little bit on the rough side and were, let’s just say, a bit on the basic side . . .

However, things have moved on in more ways than one and the Opel Corsa featured here, proves the point.

The photos are courtesy of Martin O’Donnell at Dungloe Car Breakers and the car looks superb. Martin tells us that the graphics were done by Dsigns and the side view of the car is really special.

Well done to all involved, the Dungloe lads really are heading on the rocky road to Dublin in some style.

Meanwhile, there are several examples of business premises turning their facades to green and gold.

Ballybookies in Balllyshannon have almost completed a fantastic green and gold paint job on their premises on the Diamond in Ballyshannon and Edward Gallagher who was doing the job, has made a fantastic job with the popular bookmakers owned by John Patton now featuring a chequered flag design from top to toe.
