Glenties remarks lead to Minister facing defamation case

Remarks made by the Junior Minister of European Affair, Lucinda Creighton TD, in Donegal two years ago are at the centre of a forthcoming defamation action being brought against her by a developer.

Minister Creighton addressed the MacGill Summer School in Glenties in July 2010 on the subject of “Standards in Public Officer and Accountability” and spoke with members of the media in the Highlands Hotel after her speech.

Cork based developer Michael O’Flynn is now suing the Minister for alleged Defamation in the address and in subsequent comments broadcast after the event. The case is due to be heard before a jury in the High Court in Dublin in early November.
