Glenties councillors to review report on controversial LIS

Donegal County Council’s Glenties Electoral Area Committee will next month review a report compiled by the council’s director of services for roads and transportation outlining options for addressing a controversial Local Improvement Scheme in Meenderrynasloe, Annagry.

John McLaughlin, director of services, presented the report to councillors on Monday, in response to an emergency motion independent Cllr. John Campbell brought forward in October. Cllr. Campbell called for all works to remain ceased at the site until the director detailed the costing and rational for prioritisation of the project, among other factors.

Mr. McLaughlin said there were four options: to complete the scheme as originally applied for and granted by the council; to stop the scheme as is, with 375 of the 420 metres of the road complete; to remove the works undertaken; and to modify the works undertaken.

Cllr. Campbell said later that he believed, “It is the prioritisation of the LIS in question that stands out as the most inadequate feature of the report”, though he also raised other questions.

Councillors referred the matter to the Glenties area committee and the council will await the outcome of those discussions.
