Give us the Game - urges Business Chamber - Twin Towns say big match vital for cash boost

Amidst growing fears that Donegal’s huge championship opener in May against neighbours Tyrone might go to Clones instead of Ballybofey, the local business chamber has appealed to the GAA’s Ulster Council and Croke Park to keep the game local.

The venue – Sean MacCumhaill Park – has a reduced crowd capacity, which has put the hosting of the match there in some doubt but sports fan and local Chamber of Commerce chairperson, Charlie Ferry, says it must be played in Ballybofey for commercial as well as sporting reasons.

After yesterday’s testy Tyrone league win over Donegal, there is even greater interest in the match nationally as well as locally.

Mr Ferry, left, said: “The match would be a massive and vital boost to the local economy. It would only be appropriate, as well, for the All Ireland Champions to host the match on their home turf.”
