Mrs. Mary Harkin (Dunlop): The death occurred in Brooklyn, New York, on Friday, January, 15th of Mrs. Mary Harkin (ne Dunlop). Mary who was aged 69 years, was of Gaoth Dobhair parentage. Her late father, Robert Archie Dunlop, was a native of Teach an Bhid, Magheragallon, Derrybeg, while her late mother, Nellie Mhanais Bhig, hailed from Dore. Her brother, Archie Dunlop resides in Dore. Her remains were removed from the Marine Park Funeral Home, Brooklyn to Mary Queen of Heaven R.C. Church, on Tuesday morning. Her interment took place to The Resurrection Cemetery following Requiem Mass. Pre-deceased by her husband, Cornelius, she is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Eileen Riano; two sons, Charles and Kevin; three brothers, Archie, Robert and Manus and sister; grandchildren, Gavin, Dylan, Ryan, Darcy, Aidan, Jack, Ainsley and Addison; son-in-law, Brian Riano; daughters-in-law, Elizabeth, and Tracy Harkin, relatives and friends, to all of whom deep sympathy is extended.

Congratulations: Congratulations and well done to Sarah Arnold, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway on achieving a Doctorate Degree, from University College, Galway. She is a daughter of Dr. Ciarn Arnold, who is originally from Bunbeg and Maria (ne Gallagher), who hails from Cotteen, Derrybeg. Sarah pays frequent visits to her grand mother, Mary Gallagher (McNeilis) at Cotteen, Derrybeg.

Claire Sharkey: Deeply regretted is the death of Mrs. Claire Sharkey, Lower Dore, which occurred at Letterkenny General Hospital last week. Claire who was aged 76 years at the time of her death, was married to Hugh Sharkey, who was a native of Braade, Annagry. He pre-deceased her in November 1996. Claire was a quiet and gentle individual and she will be sadly missed by her family circle. Her remains were transferred from hospital to St. Mary's Church, Derrybeg on Wednesday evening of last week. Her funeral took place following Requiem Mass on Thursday. Following the mass she was interred in a plot alongside her husband. She is survived by four sisters, relatives and friends, to all of whom deep sympathy is extended.

AGM: The annual general meeting of the Gaoth Dobhair Golf Club will take place in the Clubhouse, Magheragallon this Friday 22 January at 8pm where reports will be given on all aspects of the club in 2009. A new council will also be elected to run the club in 2010. The minutes of last year's AGM are on display in the clubhouse as well as nominations papers for anyone wishing to elect another member or be elected themselves onto the new committee.

Train The Trainer Course: Muintearas Thr Chonaill on the Gaoth Dobhair Business Park are organising Train the Trainer Course FETAC Level 6 which will commence on Friday 29th January. This course is now essential for participants to teach any FETAC Course and also anyone involved in training or tutoring. It is also essential to register with the N.R.T. The course will be held on the following dates: Friday, January 29th, Saturday, 30th, Friday 5th February, Saturday 6th, Friday 12th, February and Saturday 13th. Cumann na gCurach: Winners of the senior section of Cumann na gCurach table quiz held in Teach Shein ig, Middletown on Thursday night was a team of: Dnal Curran, Michael O'Donnell, Hugh Boyle and Danny Boyle. The novice section was won by a team of, Keith Fearraigh, John Sweeney, Mchel Nill and Toms Gallchobhair. The quiz is held in Teach Shein ig every Thursday night at 10.00p.m.

Sympathy: The sympathy of the community is extended to Mrs. Mary McCafferty, Meenabull, Dunlewey on the death of her brother, Joe Rodgers, Annagry West, which occurred at Letterkenny General Hospital at the weekend. His funeral mass was celebrated in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, Annagry on Tuesday and his interment took place afterwards in the new cemetery.
