Owenie Frank Coll: Widespread regret was occasioned by the death, following a short illness, of Owenie (Frank) Coll, Meenaniller, Derrybeg, which occurred at Letterkenny General Hospital on Tuesday evening of last week. Aged 76 years, Owenie was originally from Meenderrygamph, Gaoth Dobhair, and was a son of the late Frank and Neillie Eoin ig (ne Boyle), Heath Cottege, Meenderrygamph. Following his marriage to Mire Mhic John (ne Doogan), Meenaniller, they lived in Glasgow for a number of years. Owenie Frank was a multi talented individual who was gifted with his hands. He could turn his hand to any task from carpentry to building. During his time working in Britain he done some carpentry work in 10 Downing Street as well as in Sellifield. He also worked on the construction of the former Turf Burning Station in Meenacuing, as well as on the building of St. Mary's Church, Derrybeg, which opened in 1972. In later years he worked with the Boyle family at the Sea View Hotel, Bunbeg and stn Ghaoth Dobhair until he retired a few years ago. Owenie Frank was a quiet spoken person, who could only see goodness in everyone. The high esteem in which he was held was manifested when the Gaoth Dobhair Credit Union held a guard of honour outside St. Mary's Church on the day of his funeral, while the Middletown Hall committee provided a guard of honour at Magheragallon. The esteem in which Owenie was held was reflected at the large attendance at the removal of his remains from hospital, the wake and funeral. His funeral took place to Magheragallon cemetery on Friday last following Mass in St.Mary's Church, Derrybeg. The main celebrant of the mass was Fr. Michael Sweeney, P.P., Gaoth Dobhair and concelebrants were, Fr. Sen Gallchir, P.P., Gortahork and Fr. Brian Fearraigh, Seiplineach Phobal Scoil Chloichcheann Fhaola. The lessons were read by, ine N Chuirein (niece of his wife, Mire) and Michael John Coll (grandson). The offertory gifts were brought to the altar by Shaun and Daniel Harkin, Brendan Owen Coll (grandchildren) and Aidan Curran (relative). Pre-deceased by his parents, daughter, Ellen (who died in infancy) and brother, Tom Coll, he is survived by his wife, Mire; son, Michael (Meenaniller); daughters, Mary and Eileen Coll (at home) and Alice Harkin (Killult); four grandchildren, Michael John and Brendan Owen Coll, Shaun and Daniel Harkin; son-in-law, Joe Harkin and daughter-in-law; Jennifer Coll; family circle; relatives and friends, to all of whom deep sympathy is extended. Pilgrimage to Lough Derg: There will be a one day Pilgrimage to Lough Derg on Sunday August 30th. A bus will leave Gaoth Dobhair that morning. Anyone wishing to take part in the pilgrimage should ring Nellie at (074) 9532711 or mobile 087 9255944.

Donegal Leprosy Fund: In the recent church gate collection in aid of the Donegal Leprosy Fund taken up in the parish, the total sum raised amounts to 1,555 euro. The organisers wish to thank everyone who helped and contributed.

Car Wash: The Gaoth Dobhair Fire Crew organised a car wash again this year which was held on Saturday week last outside the Allied Irish Bank in Magheraclogher. They collected the generous sum of 3,310 euro on the day, which will go to the Donegal Hospice. Well done lads!

Jim McKendry: The death occurred in Belfast last week of Jim McKendry, who was well known in the Gaoth Dobhair area. For many years Jim and his late wife, May McKendry were the proprietors of the well known guest house, An Teach Bn in Magheraclogher. Visitors to An Teach Ban were always assured of a 'Cad mle filte'. His daughter, Siobhn N Shearcaigh is on the teaching staff of Pobal Scoil Ghaoth Dobhair. His cremated remains were brought from Belfast for burial in Annagry cemetery on Friday last. He is survived by his son, Barry; daughter Siobhn N Shearcaigh; family circle relatives and friends, to all of whom deep sympathy is extended.

Biddy McGinley: Deeply regretted is the death of Miss Biddy McGinley, Glassagh, which occurred at Falcarragh Nursing Unit on Monday August 3rd. Affectionately and better known locally as Biddy Shein, she was a daughter of the late Sen McGinley and the late Siubhan (ne McBride) who was originally from Carrickmcgarvey. Biddy was a kind and a very friendly individual and resided in the family home with her brother, Pdraig. One of a family of six children, she was predeceased by her brothers, Sen, and Owen and two sisters, Annie Coyle, (Carrick) and Gracie O'Donnell, (Derry). The deceased spent some years working in the canteen in the former carpet manufacturing plant, G.T. Carpets on the Gaoth Dobhair Industial Estate. Her former work colleagues fondly remember her for her kindness and gentle ways. She also spent some years in her youth working in Derry. There was a very big turnout at the wake and funeral which clearly indicated the high esteem in which the deceased and her family are held. Her funeral took place to Magheragallon cemetery on Wednesday following concelebrated Requiem Mass in St. Colmcille Church, Cnoc Fola. The main celebrant of the mass was Fr. Donnchadh Baoill, C.C, Cnoc Fola and concelebrants were, Fr. Michael Sweeney, P.P., Gaoth Dobhair and Fr. Sen Gallchir, P.P., Gortahork. The lessons were read by: Joe McGinley, (nephew) and Sen Patrick McGinley, (grand nephew). The offertory gifts were brought to the altar by Roisin McGinley, (grand-niece), Gavin Boast and amonn Boast, Derry, (relatives). The soloist was Eimear McGinley, (grand-niece). Following the mass she was interred in Magheragallon cemetery in a plot alongside her parents and brothers. She is survived by her brother, Pdraig McGinley, (Glassagh); nephews; nieces; family circle; relatives and friends, to all of who condolence is extended in their bereavement.

Nra McLinden: Deeply regretted is the death of Mrs. Nra McLinden, Newry which occurred last week. She was a daughter of the late Willie and Nellie Breslin. Her late mother, Nellie Pheadair John (ne Gallagher) was originally from Stranacorkra, Derrybeg. The deceased was an extremely kind and friendly person and she will be very sorely missed not only by her family but also by her many relatives in Gaoth Dobhair. They had a second home in Stranacorkra and both Nra and her husband Jim spent as much time here as in Newry. Her funeral mass was celebrated in St. Bridget's Church, Newry on Thursday last and afterwards she was interred in Omagh. A large number of her relatives from Gaoth Dobhair travelled to Newry for the Requiem Mass and afterwards to the cemetery in Omagh. She is survived by her husband, Jim; daughter, Mire; sons, Brian, Michael, Kevin and Colm; grand children, great-grand children; brothers; sisters, and a wide circle of relatives, to all of whom deep sympathy is extended.

Mary McMillan: New of the recent death of Mrs. Mary McMillan, Glasgow caused deep regret in the locality where she was well known. Aged 75 years, she was of Gaoth Dobhair parentage. Her late father, Paddy Phdraig Doherty was originally from Magheralosk, Bunbeg, while her late mother, Kitty Shmuis (ne Boyle) was originally from Sheskinbeg. She passed away after a prolonged illness. Mary paid frequent visits to Gaoth Dobhair and she is fondly remembered as a kind, friendly and a good hearted individual who will be sadly missed. Her funeral took place to Barhead Cemetery, Glasgow on Tuesday of last week following Requiem Mass. She is survived by three sons, Pat, James and Jackie; grandchildren; brother James, sisters Rose (Canada); Norah and Kathleen, (Glasgow); family circle; relatives and friends, to all of whom sincere sympathy is extended in their loss. A Memorial Mass for Mary will be celebrated in St. Mary's Church, Derrybeg, on Tuesday, 18 August 18th at 7pm.

Mass and Blessing: A mass and blessing of the sick and the elderly will take place in St. Mary's Church, Derrybeg, on August 15th, The Feast of the Assumption, L Fhile Muire Mr san Fhmhar. It will be held at 3.00pm and anyone requiring a lift is asked to contact the Parochial House, Derrybeg, (telephone 95 31310).

Paddy McGarvey: Deeply regretted is the death of Paddy McGarvey, Lunniaghbeg, Derrybeg which took place at Letterkenny General Hospital on Sunday 9th July. Aged in his seventies Paddy passed away after a very short illness. He was better known in the locality as Paddy Bhrianaigh ig. This is the second bereavement suffered by the family within two years. His brother, Jimmy having passed away over eighteen months ago. He was a son of the late Brianaigh g McGarvey and Biddy (ne Coyle) McGarvey, Lunniaghbeg. A keen cyclist, he was a good worker and he will be sadly missed. There was a very big turnout at the removal of remains from hospital to his home, also at the wake and funeral. His funeral took place to Magheragallon Cemetery on Tuesday of last week following concelebrated Requiem Mass in St. Mary's Church, Derrybeg. The main celebrant of the mass was Fr. Michael Sweeney, P.P., Gaoth Dobhair and concelebrant was An tAthair Brian Fearraigh, Seiplineach Phobal Scoil Chloichcheann Fhaola. Following the mass he was laid to rest in Magheragallon Cemetery. Predeceased by his parents, Brianaig g and Biddy, sister, Kitty who died 23 years ago, and brother, Jimmy who died December 2007, he is survived by his brother, John McGarvey, (Lower Knockastolar), sister-in-law, Mrs. Rose McGarvey, nephew, Brian McGarvey, and two nieces, Mire Brd and Caitrona McGarvey, cousins, relatives and friends, to all of whom deep sympathy is extended.

Retired: Michael O'Connor, Letterkenny recently retired from his post as Customs and Excise officer after more than thirty years service. A function in his honour was held recently in the Mount Errigal Hotel, Letterkenny. Michael is married to a Gaoth Dobhair woman, the former Carmel Breslin, Lunniagh. They are frequent visitors to the Lunniagh area where Carmel's mother, Mire Breslin (Diver) lives. His many friends wish Michael a very long and happy retirement.

St. Pio's Mass: The monthly mass in honour of St. Padre Pio will be celebrated in St. Mary's Church, Derrybeg this Friday evening at 7.00pm.

Rehab Collection: A church gate collection in aid of the North and North West Region of Rehab will be taken up outside all the churches in the parish this Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 August. Your generosity will be deeply appreciated.

Thanks: In the recent church gate collection in aid of the Donegal Parents and Friends of children with Intellectual Disabilities, the total sum raised in the parish amounts to 1,534.30 euro. Sincere thanks to Bernie, Mary, Archie and John Sheamuis who organised the collection, the collectors who helped out also the people of the parish who contributed so generously.

Frances Lavin: News has been received of the death which took peacefully, at Beaumount Hospital, Dublin on August 9th, of Mrs. Frances (Fanny) Lavin. Originally from Gola Island, she was affectionately and better known locally as Fanny Bheag Mhic Bhin (ne McGinley). The deceased who resided in Raheny, Dublin, was predeceased by her husband, Jimmy. Her remains were removed from Jenning's Funeral Home, Sprindale Road, Raheny on Tuesday evening to Saint Monica's Church, Edenmore. Her funeral took place to Fingal Cemetery on Wednesday following 10am Requiem Mass. She is survived by her sons, Philip and Paul; and daughters, Maeve and Margaret; son-in-law; daughters-in-law; grandchildren; nephews; nieces, extended family and friends, to all of whom deep sympathy is extended. Peace Mass: A Peace Mass will be celebrated in Rosnowlagh Church on Thursday August 27th. A bus will leave Gaoth Dobhair at 5.45pm. To book a seat on the bus please ring Mire at 074 95 31055 (during working hours only) or John at 086-3646787.

Heritage Week: As part of the Heritage Week, which takes place from Saturday 22 to Sunday 30th August, An Taisce will be leading a day trip to Gola Island off the Gaoth Dobhair coastline on Saturday August 22nd.

Raising Funds For Crumlin: For the past year a local man, John Sweeney, Upper Dore, has been fundraising in aid of Our Ladies Hospital in Crumlin. He organised an Art Exhibition in the Catch Up Restaurant in Letterkenny last week. He is also planning a charity cycle from September 2 to September 12 in Georgia, USA, and all funds will go to the Children's Medical and Research Fund, Our Ladies Hospital in Crumlin. Other fundraising events organised by John in the recent past include the Battle of the Bands in stn na Rosann and bag packing day in Super Value and in the Cope in Dungloe.

Kitty Gallagher: The death occurred in Edenburgh on Wednesday of last week of Mrs. Kitty Gallagher. Aged in her seventies, she was originally from Magheraclogher, and was better known locally as Kitty Neill hAnra. Kitty spent a considerable part of her life living in Edenburgh. She was married to a Gaoth Dobhair man, Charlie Dhominic Eoin Gallagher, who was originally from Sleeghan, Derrybeg. He passed away a number of years ago. She is survived by a son, two daughters, family circle relatives and friends. Her funeral took place in Edenburgh on Monday following Requiem Mass. A mass for the repose of her soul was celebrated in St. Mary's Church on Monday morning, the day of her funeral. The sympathy of the community is extended to her family relatives and friends.

Mary McMillan: In relation to last week's obituary notes of the late Mary McMillan, who died recently in Glasgow, the name of her brother, Danny and his wife and family (Glasgow) were omitted from the list. She was also predeceased by her brother Pat who died in Australia three years ago.
