Raymond Mac Conchoille (McEnhill): Widespread sorrow and regret was felt after the death of Raymond Mac Conchoille (McEnhill), which occurred at his residence in Doire na Mainser, on Saturday, 5 September. Originally from Castle Street, Donegal Town, he passed away after an illness. A well known and highly respected member of the community, Ray (as he was better known), moved to live in Gaoth Dobhair in December 1972, when he was appointed Instructor in General Engineering with the then AnCo Training facility (now FS) on the Derrybeg Industrial Estate. Ray had all the grace and charm of a true gentleman. On his arrival in Gaoth Dobhair he started to learn the Gaelic language and in a short period of time he became a fluent Irish speaker. He met and married Mire (ne McCafferty) a native of Ranafast, and on their marriage they built a new bungalow in Crolly. Shortly before Christmas last they left Crolly and moved to live in their new home in Doire na Mainser. Although he was in indifferent health for some time, he never complained and he bore his illness with fortitude and resignation. His funeral, which took place to the new Annagry Cemetery on Tuesday of last week, was one of the largest seen in the area for some time, a fitting tribute to the high esteem in which he was held. His funeral mass was celebrated in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, Annagry. The main celebrant of the mass was Fr. Michael Herrity, P.P., Annagry. Among the large number of mourners present at the funeral were colleagues of Ray's daughter, Caoimhe from RT and TG4. She works with the news department at both stations. He is survived by his wife, Mire; son, Samus; daughters, Caoimhe, Niamh and Dearbhla; family members, relatives and friends, to all of whom sincere sympathy is extended.
