Annie Ferry: Miss Annie Ferry, Sheskinbeg, passed away peacefully at Falcarragh Nursing Unit on Sunday 3rd January. One of a family of nine children, she was the youngest member of the family of the late Jimmy Chaitln Fearraigh and his wife, Mire, Sheskinbeg. Annie emigrated to Scotland when she was only a teenager. Annie also worked for Fr. Michael Keating, who was a native of Co. Kerry, and who passed away in May 2008. Annie was a diligent and hard worker, and she was highly popular and greatly respected in all areas she worked in. She was deeply devout Christian. She was a very friendly individual, who had an incredible memory of events and happenings which occurred many years ago. She could trace relatives of families in the locality back generations and she was a great source for those embarking on their family tree. She loved company, and visitors to her home in Sheskinbeg were always assured of a very warm welcome. Her remains were removed from the Falcarragh Nursing Unit to her home in Sheskinbeg on Monday 4th, August. Despite the artic conditions there was a large attendance at her wake. At her request, her remains were removed to St. Mary's Church, Derrybeg, on Tuesday evening for the 7.00pm Mass. Her funeral Mass was celebrated at 11.30am on Wednesday. The main celebrant of the mass was her nephew, Fr. Cathal Fearra, P.P., Ballyshannon, and concelebrants were, An Dr. Oirmh. Pdraig Baoighill, Seiplineach Phobal Scoil Ghaoth Dobhair and Fr. Brian Fearraigh, Seiplineach Phobal Scoil Chloich Cheann Fhaola. She was predeceased by her brothers, Conal (Lunniagh), Hughie, (London) and Diarmaid, (Sheskinbeg); sisters, Nellie Ferry, (Sheskinbeg), Madgie Doherty, (Magheraclogher), Kitty Ferry, (Sheskinbeg), Mary Cannon, (Brooklyn, New York), and Maggie McGarvey, (Brooklyn). Annie was the last surviving member of her family. She is survived by nephews; nieces; in-laws; family circle; relatives and friends, to all of whom deep sympathy is extended.

AGM: The annual general meeting of the Gaoth Dobhair Golf Club will take place in the Clubhouse, Magheragallon on Friday, 22 January at 8pm, where reports will be given on all aspects of the club in 2009. A new council will also be elected to run the club in 2010. The minutes of last year's AGM are on display in the clubhouse as well as nominations papers for anyone wishing to elect another member or be elected themselves onto the new committee.
Months Mind Mass: The month's mind mass for the late Joe McGarvey, originally from Meenaniller, Derrybeg, who died recently in Salford, Manchester will be celebrated in St. Mary's Church, Derrybeg, on Tuesday, January, 19th at 7.00pm.

Mrs. Gracie McGee: The death of Mrs. Gracie McGee, Arduns, Gaoth Dobhair, which occurred at Letterkenny General Hospital on Sunday 3rd January, sees the passing of a highly respected woman. Gracie who was aged 86 years, was born in Arduns and was a daughter of the late Eoin Pheadair Bhig O'Donnell and the late Catherine O'Donnell. She was the last surviving member of her family. Gracie married a local man, Mickey Jimmy Mhic McGee, and they had a family of a daughter and two sons. One of the sons, Samus McGee, is the well known singer. Gracie passed away after a brief illness. Gracie McGee was a remarkable woman, kind, friendly and who liked the craic. She was a great character and who loved nothing better than to socialise among her friends and neighbours, and always was the life and soul of the party. Gracie was an excellent wife and mother and grandmother and she will be sorely missed by the entire family and especially the grandchildren who were fondly devoted to her. Her remains were removed from hospital to her home in Arduns on Monday 4th for waking. The esteem in which the deceased and her family are held was reflected in the large and representative attendance at the home coming of remains, wake and funeral, with many people travelling long distances to express their sympathy to the bereaved family. Her funeral took place to Magheragallon cemetery on Wednesday 6th January, after 1.00pm requiem Mass in St. Mary's Church, Derrybeg. The main celebrant of the mass was Fr. Michael Sweeney, P.P., Gaoth Dobhair and concelebrants were, Fr. Sen Gallchir, P.P., Gortahork, An Dr. Oirmh. Pdraig Baoighill, Seiplineach Phobal ScoiL Ghaoth Dobhair, Fr. Brian Ferarraigh, Seiplineach Phobal Scoil Ghaoth Dobhair, and Fr, Donnchadh Baoill, C.C., Cnoc Fola. Fr. Michael Herrity, P.P., Annary was in the congregation. The lessons were read by, Paula Whoriskey, (granddaughter) and Margaret Mary Sweeney, (niece). Following the mass she was laid to rest in Magheragallon cemetery. She was pre-deceased by her brother, Charlie O'Donnell, (Annagry), and sisters, Cissie Clinton, (United States), Mary Hughes, (Monaghan), Kitty Ferry, (Gaoth Dobhair Station), Annie Doherty, (Dungloe), and Biddy O'Donnell, (Annagry). She is survived by her husband, Mickey; daughter, Brd Whoriskey, (Arduns); two sons, Samus and Cathal (Arduns); five grand children; in-laws; relatives and friends, to all of whom deep sympathy is extended. Her month's mind mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick's Church, Meenaweal on Tuesday, February, 2nd at 7.00pm.
