Bella Doherty: The death of Mrs. Bella Doherty, which took place suddenly at her home in Magheralosk, Bunbeg, on Monday 1st March caused deep sadness over a wide area. Bella (ne McFadden) who was better known locally as Bella Annie Phdraig, was aged 69 years at the time of her death. News of her unexpected death was received with disbelief in the locality, as she attended the 40th birthday party of her daughter in law in the Derrybeg Hotel, two nights prior to her demise. Bella and her husband, George spent many years living in Glasgow. During the time living there she worked in hospitals throughout the Glasgow region. The couple along with their family moved to live in Magheralosk in 1981. Bella, her husband George and family suffered a terrible blow in 1988, when their son, Owenie, aged only seventeen years at the time, was tragically drowned as he was crossing the stretch of water between Magheralosk and Ranafast. Bella Doherty was a lovely friendly and kind individual, who did not see any badness in anyone. She was totally devoted to her loving family and especially her grandchildren, who brought her much happiness. A keen bingo player, she was a familiar figure at the weekly bingo sessions held in the locality. She was an outstanding woman, neighbour and friend and was very popular with all who had the pleasure of knowing her. The very large and representative attendance at the removal of remains to her home, wake and funeral clearly indicated the high esteem in which the deceased and her family are held. Her funeral took place to Magheragallon cemetery on Thursday last following concelebrated Requiem Mass in St. Mary's Church, Derrybeg. The main celebrant of the mass was Fr. Michael Sweeney, P.P., Gaoth Dobhair assisted by Fr. Sen Gallchir, P.P., Gortahork. She is survived by her husband, George; four daughters, Annmarie McElroy, and her husband Davy, (Glasgow), Noeleen Gallagher and her husband, amonn, (Strakeenagh, Derrybeg), Jackie Quinn and her husband, Mark, (Boston) and Annabell McGeever and her husband, Mickey, (Navan); one son, Georgie and his wife, Martina, (Cotteen); ten grand children and one great grandson; one brother, Pdraig and one sister, Nancy Connaghan, (Glasgow); family circle; relatives and friends, to all of whom deep sympathy is extended. Her month's mind mass will be celebrated in St. Mary's Church, Derrybeg on April 10th.
