Peggy McNeilis: The death of Miss Peggy McNeilis, which took place at her home in Middletown, Derrybeg on Saturday, 29 August caused deep regret over a wide area.

Aged 72 years, she was a daughter of the late Andy and Gracie McNeilis, Middletown. A retired nurse, Peggy spent most of her nursing career at Dungloe District Hospital. She undertook her nursing training at Cherry Orchard in Dublin and in England, and on returning home she took up an appointment at Dungloe District Hospital and spent 32 years nursing there. Peggy was a kind and caring person, and a highly skilled nurse, who carried out her duties in a professional manner. She retired from nursing thirteen years ago.

She was a quiet, gentle woman of great faith and charity, which was reflected by the large numbers who attended the wake, funeral and Requiem Mass. Her funeral took place to Magheragallon cemetery on Monday week last following concelebrated Requiem Mass in St. Mary's Church, Derrybeg. The main celebrant of the mass was Fr. Michael Sweeney, P.P., Gaoth Dobhair and con celebrants were, An Dr. Oirmh. Pdraig Baoighill, Seiplineach Phobal Scoil Ghaoth Dobhair and Fr. Brian Fearraigh, Seiplineach Phobal Scoil Chloichcheann Fhaola. Pre-deceased by her parents, and brother, Sen, she is survived by her brothers, Pat McNeilis, (Middletown), amonn (England); sister, Mary U Bhriain, (Middletown); nephews; nieces; family circle; relatives and friends, to all of whom deep sympathy is extended.

Pdraig Gallagher: The death occurred suddenly, at his home in Glasgow, on September 3rd, of Pdraig (Hannah) Gallagher, who was originally from Ranafast. He was aged 71 years and is survived by his wife, Margaret (ne Devlin); two dauthers, Noreen and Theresa; son Frank and one sister, Theresa (Hannah) Sweeney, (Ballindrait, Bunbeg); family circle; relatives and friends, to all of whom deep sympathy is extended. Reception and vigil at St. Gabriels, R.C. Church, Merrylee Road, Glasgow on Tuesday at 6.30pm. His interment took place to Linn Cemetery, Lainnshaw Drive, after 10am. Requiem Mass was on Wednesday, 9th September. Ar Dheis D go raibh a anam uasal.

Gaoth Dobhair Arts: Gaoth Dobhair Arts are holding a two day Art Workshop on Saturday, 3rd and Sunday, 4th October. It will be held from 11am to 4pm and a light lunch will be served. Ring 087 6338869.

Henry McFadden: Deeply regretted is the death of Henry McFadden, Magheraclogher, which took place at Letterkenny General Hospital on Tuesday, 1 September. Aged 94 years, Henry was originally from Moyra, Falcarragh. He spent most of his life living in the Glasgow region of Scotland. He worked for many years with the Lilly Construction Company, and was mainly engaged in tunnel work in England and Scotland. A very diligent and hard worker, he worked on the Victoria Line in London. Having spent many years living in Glasgow, he was an ardent supporter of Glasgow Celtic, and he attended many of their matches. After coming to live in Gaoth Dobhair he followed their fortunes on television. He was married to the former Mary Coll, and they moved from Glasgow to live in their newly constructed bungalow in Magheraclogher 27 years ago. She passed away in March 1991. Henry lived life to the full, and for many years he won the prize for the most senior man at the Christmas Party for the elderly. The large and representative attendance at the removal of remains, wake and funeral clearly indicated the high esteem in which the deceased and his family are held. His funeral took place to Magheragallon cemetery on Thursday following concelebrated Requiem Mass in St.Mary's Church, Derrybeg. The main celebrant was Fr. Francis Ferry, C.C., Tory Island (grand-nephew of the deceased) and con celebrants were, Fr. Michael Sweeney, P.P., Gaoth Dobhair and An Dr. Oirmh. Pdraig Baoighill, Seiplineach Phobal Scoil Ghaoth Dobhair. He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen McFadden (at home); son, Charlie, (Scotland); daughter in law, Marie McFadden; five grandchildren; family circle; relatives and friends, to all of whom deep sympathy is extended.
